Conferences & Symposia

EWODOR Symposium, Barcelona, Spain, 23-25 March 2011

13th EFTC Conference, Oxford, England, 20-23 September 2011

Education & Social Integration of Vulnerable Groups, 23-26 June 2011

First EFTC President Prof. Eric Broekaert included in the 2nd Orthopedagogische Reeks Gent, Special Education publication entitled Therapeutic Communities a quote from American Author Thomas Wolfe(Wolfe 1940) who wrote': 'We had a 'concept' about truth and beauty and love and reality - and that hardened our ideas about what all the words stood for. After that, we had no doubt about them - or at any rate, could not admit that we did. This was wrong, because the essence of belief is doubt, the essence of reality is questioning'.

EFTC Conferences, Institutes and other occasions provide our members and other colleagues from all disciplines of drug treatment provision the opportunity to present, question, clarify and communicate the results, and evaluation of our collective contribution to individuals and families who suffer from the malaise of addiction, the related physical and life issues. The EFTC congresses continue to provide a channel of information within Europe on Rehabilitation and Drug Policy. EFTC also works in collaboration with EWODOR and other providers to offer annual symposia on evidence-based addiction treatment.

Date: 20 - 23 September 2011
Place: Oxford, England
Venue: Keble College, Oxford University

The Therapeutic Community movement has established itself over the past 50 years as a major provider of recovery-oriented services. Refining and developing the practices of mutual-aid fellowships like Alcoholics Anonymous and merging these approaches with social psychiatry initiatives of Maxwell Jones, David Clark and others, the therapeutic community (TC) has become central to our understanding of guided peer-support and self-help in recovery. This will be the first time in it's 30 year history that the EFTC has held its biennial conference in the UK. Further information will be made regarding this important event in the near future.
